Sensory Room

Where Every Sense Finds Harmony and Comfort

Certain visually impaired children may encounter a neurological condition wherein the brain struggles to integrate and process information from various sensory systems. This condition leads to an ongoing disruption in the correlation between behavior and brain functionality. The sensory systems encompass vision, auditory cues, olfaction, taste, thermal sensations, and proprioception (body positioning and movement). The brain intricately synthesizes this array of information to facilitate the body's accurate perception and interaction with its environment, a process known as "sensory integration."

Therapeutic intervention is crucial and involves the utilization of specialized sensory tools and equipment tailored to stimulate all senses, induce relaxation, and bolster mental comfort. Al Shurooq School has established a dedicated sensory room to fulfill this objective.

Al Shurooq's sensory room features plastic tubes filled with vibrant air bubbles and illuminated fiber optic wires, meticulously designed to engage and stimulate the sense of sight. Additionally, a diverse array of tools capable of illuminating the room's ceiling and walls with an array of colors and rhythms, along with various light effects, are employed for similar sensory stimulation. Additionally, the sensory room contains tools designed to release calming scents, enhancing the sense of smell. It also includes toys that create unique sounds to improve hearing. Different textures and materials in toys aim to stimulate touch, while designated areas offer materials and flavors to refine the sense of taste.

Thus, the comprehensive design of this sensory room facilitates a holistic approach to sensory therapy, providing a conducive environment for Al Shurooq students to engage, explore, and cultivate their sensory experiences.
