In this initiative, a collaborative effort between a dedicated social worker and the school principal is employed to provide comprehensive support for students who have completed their education up to the fifth grade at Al Shurooq School and are now transitioning into mainstream classes. The school principal and the social worker work together to seamlessly integrate these students into their new educational environment. This involves identifying the most suitable school for them, introducing them to the school's layout, and connecting them with their teachers and classmates. The ultimate goal is to facilitate a smooth transition into independent academic life.
The social worker assists blind children and their families, through weekly visits, which become monthly as the child becomes more settled. The National Society in collaboration with Al Shurooq School equip integrated blind students with essential tools and aids such as Braille printing machines, Braille paper, schoolbooks, magnifiers, and white canes. In addition, the school offers ongoing support and follow-up services for visually impaired students, even after they enter universities, through regular contact and continuous visits to the NSFVH.
The Social Workers at Al Shurooq School organize awareness sessions aimed at mothers of visually impaired students and those undergoing integration within the educational system. These sessions cover several topics, from adapting home environments to addressing academic challenges, utilizing visual aids, and exploring various aspects of teaching methodology.
Furthermore, our dedicated team extends its efforts to provide awareness sessions on visual disabilities to community institutions and educators in mainstream schools who work with visually impaired students. This proactive approach contributes significantly to fostering effective, suitable, and all-encompassing integration of students with visual impairments.
